Every year, Hindus, Sikhs and Jains in India celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. As one of the brightest and most colorful festivals in india, Diwali represents the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Houses and public spaces are elaborately decorated with colorful lanterns and designs.

Fireworks are also a significant part of the five-day festival, but also a potentially dangerous one. High levels of sulphur dioxide, often found in smoke, can cause health issues like.

The main festival happens on the darkest night of the first new moon of the , which is in either October or November. The especially dark night brings more life to the colors of the fireworks and lights in India.
