Free time frees creativity, and that is just what photographer experienced on her recent trip to the America’s National Parks and their canyons.
“From a photographer’s perspective, the best part of a trip is most definitely the fabulous sceneries,” she told weather.com. “Everywhere I looked was something amazing.”
Based in Costa Rica, Vargas lives in a tropical climate that has beach-ready weather all year round. So, when she took a trip to Utah, she recognized that “desert landscapes are truly something beautiful.”
She and her boyfriend wanted to venture off to a location where they could do a lot of canyoneering, a mutual hobby the couple shares. “Our road trip started in Las Vegas, travelling through Arizona, and a stop at the Grand Canyon, and then onto Utah, where we visited Moab, Escalante and Zion,” Vargas said.
Throughout her adventures, she made sure to capture these special moments. “My favorite photograph is the one of the running rabbit,” she said. “We really wanted to see wild animals, and it was quite difficult, but one afternoon in Moab, I found this one bunny that allowed me to get in quite close.”
Photographing moving animals can be a difficult task, but Vargas said that she tries to let her creativity flow while capturing each picture. “Each location inspires something different in me,” she said. When actually out shooting, Vargas said that “patience to get the best shot and the determination to get up early” are important. And for the perfect lighting, she recommends shooting at daybreak.
However, “editing is the hardest part, because I tend to be very demanding with my final selection,” she said. Still, she believes that if there’s passion behind the image, the patience will produce fruitful photographs. “My goal is to try and convey what I see in the best possible manner,” Vargas said. “I want people to feel transported to the places I capture with my photographs.”
Vargas plans to begin a photography series on canyoneering in Costa Rica and also hopes to return to Zion National Park in Utah for more exploration.
