Photographer Chris Beecroft initially began exploring Australia when he moved from the U.K. more than 10 years ago. He was curious about his new home, and wanted to explore it to the fullest.
"I missed out on a lot of the 'classic' vacation spots many of my friends were taken to when they were children," Beecroft told weather.com. "A large drive to go exploring, initially, was to make sense of these places that I heard about but couldn't imagine."

Beecroft's itch for adventure hasn't waned. He recently hitchhiked around New Zealand for several months, documenting the vast and colorful landscapes through photography.
"I hope to convey a sense of freedom, above all else," Beecroft said. "My favorite place that I have photographed is called Karijini National Park. It is a roughly 16 hour drive north of Perth, Western Australia and has the most incredible network of gorges within it. It is very, very far away from just about anything and is almost always guaranteed to be sweltering hot, so you take as much food and water as you can and spend days hiking, climbing and swimming through the grandiose gorges. It's truly a giant natural playground."
