Arizona's Antelope Canyon is a picturesque landscape that many tourists visit and photograph. There are countless photos of the beautiful canyon, which formed from flash flooding, but one stands out above all others.

World-famous photographer Peter Lik just turned a black and white photograph, called "Phantom," of the canyon into $6.5 million, making it the most expensive photograph ever taken or sold. The previous record was $4.3 million, set by Andreas Gurky's photo of the River Rhine, which was sold in 2011.

"The purpose of all my photos is to capture the power of nature and convey it in a way that inspires someone to feel passionate and connected to the image," said Lik in a press release.

"Certain textures and contours found in nature lend themselves beautifully to black and white photography," said Lik. "The intensity of contrasting light and dark spaces was surprising, but made for some of the most powerful images I've ever created."
