The weather in Hong Kong on Thursday was gloomy, but a new arrival provided a bright spot to the city's iconic skyline. A giant rubber duck, 46 feet tall and 55 feet long, sailed into Hong Kong's Victoria Harbor to cheers, a brass band, and the media's flashing cameras, according to CNN.

The inflatable rubber duck, a floating art installation by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, has traveled to 13 cities in nine countries all over the world since 2007, including Amsterdam, Sao Paolo, Osaka and Sydney. Hofman said the duck represents the union of the people, adding "we're one family and all waters in the world is our global bathtub," according to the Guardian.

Made from inflatable plastic shell, a pontoon boat, and a generator to power it, the rubber duck floats gently through the environment without disrupting the nature of the marine life, according to EcoGreenGlobe.

The six-story-high duck installation, entitled "Spreading Joy Around the World" will be at Ocean Terminal City, Harbour City in Hong Kong until June 9, 2013. Hofman, famous for his humorous large-scale art installations, says on his website that he hopes his work causes "astonishment, and puts a smile on your face."

The next stop for the rubber duck is the United States, reports CNN. The exact destination, however, is "confidential," says Hofman.
