Over the course of a long winter season, we see plenty of photos that astound us. Although we're early in the 2015-16 season, this may end up being the craziest winter photo we see all year.

Captured by Barbie Jeffers Battershell in Mustang, Oklahoma, the image at the top of this page was taken Sunday while much of the state was firmly in the grip of an ice storm brought on by . That ice, more than an inch thick in some areas, covered everything very quickly, including this speed limit sign.

And as the ice slid off the sign in one piece, it clearly showed the imprint of the speed limit. It's a scene reminiscent of last year, when an image surfaced of a , even after the car pulled away.

Astronomical winter hasn't even started yet, so we may see more unique photos as the year goes on, but then again, El Niño . With for much of the country, winter-lovers may be disappointed with the start of winter 2015-16.
