A Fortress for Gardeners

(Image: VisionDivision)

Common interests bond us together, and the architects at Sweden-based VisionDivision are taking those ties one step further in Forts of Fanaticism.

Forts of Fanaticism was originally designed for the 2013 Europan 12 architecture competition. This year's theme was adaptable cities.

VisionDivision describes its conceptas five "dedicated settlements" built in the Kalmar region "where common interests in a specific subject has been the main drive."

The architects say they're motivated by the idea that physical and political borders across Europe have diminished in the last two decades, and that people are seeking more ways to connect with each other.

Gardening would take center stage in Forum Floresco. This "fort" is designed to hold 60 row houses which could be divided into 300 separate apartments. The complex would include shared and private gardens, a greenhouse built on the roof to house exotic plants and an underground storage space for tender plants during the winter.

Complexes dedicated to fishing, exercise, cars and boats, and computers would round out the other settlements.

VisionDivision is sharing renderings with weather.com, which you can see in the photos in this story. Click through formore photos of their designs.
