"Mating." Shortlisted for Young Photographer of the Year 2015 (Darpan Basak/Royal Society of Biology)

The Royal Society of Biology just for their Photographer of the Year and Young Photographer of the Year competitions.

Photographers around the globe submitted their photographs for this year's competition, which held the theme of "Conflict and Survival." The finalists captured images ranging from a pair of seabirds competing over a meal to Sri Lankan men fishing in the sea.

The annual photo contest is open to amateur photographers, with a prize of £1,000 for photographers aged 18 and older and £500 for those age under 18.

The winners for each age group will be announced at the Royal Society of Biology Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 15 as a part of in London, United Kingdom.
