'Bubbles For Beijing' Biodome Aims To Protect Parks and Homes From Pollution
Jan 17, 2024 3:39 PM

It looks a bit like the Hunger Games arena Katniss brought down with her bow and arrow in "Catching Fire," but the vision behind this futuristic biodome is about protecting homes, playgrounds and delicate plant life from pollution.

Architect Rajat Sodhi and his firm Orproject are behind the Bubbles for Beijing design concept.

"I want to enclose part of the city in a green bubble, to create an outdoor space where people can spend time and relax," Sodhi explains.

The concept would allow people to live, play and work inside a clean dome —a far cry from the days when dirty air keeps kids indoors and cancels sporting events.

Renderings show a domed botanical garden anchoring the complex, while residential and business towers stand around the perimeter. The complex would be engineered to filter the clean air from the dome into the neighboring towers, allowing everyone access to better air.

The architects suggest bubbles could be built on a smaller scale, specifically for parks, playgrounds and outdoor sports fields.
