British Airways Plane Struck By Lightning on Flight From Gatwick to Glasgow

Passengers on a British Airways flight from Gatwick Airport to Glasgow said all they could do was pray.

Lightning and thunder were crashing around the Airbus A319 , according to the Daily Mail. When gusty winds forced the pilot to change direction of the landing, the plane was struck by a bolt of lightning.

People inside the plane described the strike as a loud bang and a flash of orange, the Daily Mail also reported. One man fainted, children screamed and others prayed for the safe landing of the plane, the report added. There were no reports of any additional injuries in the ordeal.

Once the plane landed safely, for any damage, AOL.com said. The airplane was set to return to London after that.

"Lightning strikes are fairly common, and aircraft are designed to cope with them," said a spokesman in the AOL.com report.

For their troubles, British Airways offered the passengers an apology and rebooked as many people as they could on departing flights that same day, AOL.com also reported.

The lightning strike scare wasn't the last issue for the airline; on Tuesday, another British Airways jet made news when , leaving damage to the airplane's wings but no injuries, according to a separate Daily Mail report.
