When summer temperatures start baking the city, swimming pools can offer respite from the sometimes-searing heat. But pools at some hotels and spas offer more than just a way to cool off. Some feature innovation—heated or equipped with underwater sound systems—and some, perched high on rooftops or terraces, offer stunning, picturesque views. New York City is dotted with rooftop swimming pools, some of the best ways to escape the sweaty urban jungle in the summer. At the in the city's Meatpacking District, 'The Beach' serves asa Cote D’Azur-inspired paradise, complete with a heated, glass-bottomed, rooftop pool spanning 4,800 square feet, and a beach filled with imported white sand, and equipped with plush chaise lounges and private cabanas. And this chic paradise is not just for hotel guests. This summer, for the first time, The Beach at Dream Downtown will offer weekday passes for non-hotel guests.

The sky-scraping infinity pool at the will make you feel like you're swimming in the skies. The pool, located 57 stories high, stretches almost 500 feet across the rooftop of the five-star hotel (it is only available for guests). It's considered one of the largest outdoor pools in the world, and boasts breathtaking, panoramic views of the city's skyline. Swim to the vanishing "edge" of the pool, and experience the heart-stopping sensation of floating among skyscrapers.

Another swimming pool that will take guests to the edge and back can be found at , a Neo-Gothic hotel in downtown Dallas, Texas. The glass-bottomed, cantilevered wonder, designed by award-winning architect Adam D. Tihany, protrudes eight feet beyond the hotel structure. Swimmers can enjoy the breathtaking view from the plexiglass window at the far end of the heated pool.
