A meager 1.3 inches of snow has officially been recorded so far this season at . This snow total, just nine percent of the average-to-date, has been exceeded by a number of cities in the southern United States as we head into late January.
The latest such example is from (photos above), which brought 1.7 inches of snow to on Thursday, January 17. This was Jackson's first significant snow since February 2010. The capital city of Mississippi averages less than an inch of snow each season.

is another city where bumped the seasonal snow total above what Chicago has seen so far. The storm brought 2.1 inches to Alabama's most populated city on the afternoon of January 17.
This was the first one inch or greater snowfall since February 2011. Birmingham averages around 1.7 inches of snow each winter.

The big winner in the South is the Arkansas capital of Little Rock.
A total of 10.6 inches of snow has fallen this winter. The majority of this, 10.3 inches, fell during around Christmas. This is almost eight times the amount of snow Chicago has seen so far this season. It's also just a little more than half of Chicago's total all of last season (19.8 inches), which was far below their annual average of 36.4 inches.

El Paso, located along the U.S./Mexico border in southwest Texas, has seen more than twice Chicago's snowfall total this season with 3.1 inches. All of this fell during a single snowstorm in early January.
El Paso averages 4.8 inches of snow each season, which is just 13 percent of Chicago's annual average.

Just like El Paso, Greensboro has also seen more than twice Chicago's seasonal snowfall total.
delivered three inches of snow to the northwestern North Carolina city on the evening of January 18.
Greensboro averages more snow per season, 7.4 inches, than all of the other previously mentioned southern cities.
Though all of the cities in this article exceed Chicago's total so far, there is plenty more winter to go.
