(Heather Hansman)
Crested Butte, which is pleasantly devoid of chain restaurants, has one of the best small town dining (and drinking) scenes. Here’s where to fuel up all day.
Camp 4 CoffeeCamp 4 is a much loved CB institution for its espresso, baked goods, and breakfast burritos. There are three locations, but the spot on Fourth Street, with it’s license plate décor and tiny patio, is by far the most charming.http://www.camp4coffee.com/
IzzysIf you want something slightly more substantial, check out Izzys, located a block off Elk Ave. It’s tiny (there are only about four tables) but the food is delicious, local and hearty without being heavy, so it won’t weigh you down on the hill. Try the breakfast latkes.
Bakery at Mt Crested Butte
On-mountain dining, even when it’s the low budget option, generally burns a hole in your pocket. Not so at the Bakery—grab quick, cheap lunch options like calzones and quiche and be right back out on the hill.
The Secret Stash
Lunch is likely your best time to get a table at the always-busy Secret Stash—for dinner, expect to wait upwards of an hour. More than just a local pizza joint, the Stash's creative pie toppings range from fig and truffle oil to hamburger and cheddar, reminiscent of a Big Mac.http://thesecretstash.com/
Slogar
Hungry? Head to family-style Slogar where you’ll get a slab of fried chicken or steak and as much mashed potatoes and creamed corn as you can handle. The honey butter and the cinnamon poached pears alone are worth the trip.
Ryce or Ginger Café
For a small town, CB has two great Asian food options. The Ginger Cafe, which is housed in an cozy old cabin, serves up a mix of Thai and Indian (try the chicken korma), while Ryce, which hosts a more energetic scene, treads the line between Japanese and Thai.http://www.ryceasianbistro.com/http://thegingercafe.com/
Dogwood Cocktail Cabin
Crested Butte, like many other ski towns, has seen a recent influx of high-class drinking establishments. Of them, the Dogwood Cocktail Cabin is definitely worth a visit: they infuse their own alcohol and mix up drinks with ingredients like pink peppercorns and squash.http://thedogwoodcocktailcabin.com/
Montanya Rum Distillery
Montanya just moved their main operation from Silverton to CB, and they're right at home in their new, larger location. Even if you’re not a rum drinker, you’ll find something to whet your whistle on their creative drink list: the spicy Teocalli Calder is all-star.http://www.montanyarum.com
Eldo
To cap off your night, make like a liftie and head to the Eldo. Swill cheap whiskey drinks and noodle-dance to the local bluegrass band.http://eldobrewpub.com/
